Caregiver Support Series at the Kentwood Branch

This fall, we are teaming up with Spectrum Health to present three six-week series on mental health. Our Kentwood Branch will host a series on Caregiver Support at 6:30 PM on Tuesdays, September 13 - October 18. Providing support for aging adults requires that you also take care of yourself. This conversation will revolve around the ins and outs of caregiving for loved ones and yourself.

Schedule
September 13: Caregiver Resources (home care, respite)
September 20: Memory Loss, dementia, mental health
September 27: : Is placement right for your loved one? (ACP/DPOA)
October 4: Managing Family Dynamics with Multiple Caregivers
October 11: Caregiver Guilt/Burn Out/Ambivalence/Mental Health
October 17: Caregiver Care—Mindfulness and Self Care

Presenters

Cathy Risley, LMSW: Cathy was a hospice social worker for many years and has extensive experience in supporting family caregivers and helping them to navigate the healthcare and long term care systems. She and her siblings are also currently caregivers for their own elderly mother, experiencing firsthand both the rewards and the frustrations that entails.

Sarah Crayne, LMSW: Sarah has extensive experience working within Community Mental Health, mostly supporting those with Developmental Disabilities and their support circles/families. She has knowledge of community resources and navigating many state and federal programs.

"Cathy and I plan to provide both education and resources to help caregivers in the community, managing the care of their elderly loved ones," said Crayne. "We will also be covering ways for caregivers to take care of themselves, which is one of the keys to positive mental health and reducing burnout."
