Have you ever wondered who creates the amazing artwork on KDL's magazines? Well, meet Michael Hoskins, the artist behind the cover of the Winter Kaleidoscope (available now at a branch near you!). All the KDL staff think that Michael's yeti, jackalope and St. Bernard friends are perfect representations of winter book lovers. Don't you agree?
What can you tell us about yourself?
I'm an Illustrator who works mostly in watercolor with a love of the natural and fantastical world. I've always had a fondness for children's book illustrations and hope to publish a few myself.
Where are some of the places you gather inspiration?
I'm often inspired by nature, the forest and folklore, as well as artists like Tony Diterlizzi, Brian Froud and Mike Mignola.
Describe the perfect winter day.
I love those winter days where you can enjoy a toasty beverage and good book in front of the fireplace while watching fluffy flakes of snow piling up outside.
What does the library mean to you?
Libraries have always meant a great deal to me. Books can take you anywhere you'd like to go. My trips to the library as a child, as well as books in general, helped foster my love of drawing and allowing my imagination to flow onto the page.
