By Audrey Barker, Branch Librarian
One of the unknowns when becoming a parent or grandparent is how to find your community. As communities evolve in this ever-changing world, the library remains a constant "third place" where all are welcome. The library is a place where you can find the heartbeat of the community.
These grandmas, Patricia and Cheryl, were each looking for something fun to do on the days that they watched their young granddaughters, Isla and Keeley. They knew the library would be a free, easy and fun way to keep them all smiling. What they were all about to learn was how great relationships can bloom out of these simple visits.
As luck would have it, Isla and Keeley became regular playmates during the Storytime open play. Their friendly grandmas took notice and began talking too. Then they began taking the girls to local places together. Now, they often have lunch together after Storytime. These friendships for children, parents and grandparents form so naturally over common interests and experiences. As the librarian that has watched this friendship bloom, I am not sure who is closer friends, Isla and Keeley or Patricia and Cheryl!
This fun group of friends forming brings us all so much joy! Finding your community can be a hard endeavor. However, when you visit a program, use a computer or participate in a community activity at your library, you may just find your own community too.
