There are many benefits to joining a book club. Did you know that nearly every KDL branch offers at least one book club? Not sure if a book club is right for you? Keep reading to find out why you should consider joining one of KDL’s awesome book clubs.
They are a wonderful way to meet new people and make friends. Joining a book club at your local KDL branch is a great and low-stress way to get to know the people in your community who share a common interest with you: books!
Expand your literary horizons. KDL book club selections are specially curated by librarians. This is a fantastic opportunity to read outside your usual genres and to read books you might not have otherwise chosen yourself.
Get to know and understand diverse perspectives. Joining a KDL book club is a wonderful way to read outside your lived experience in a friendly and informal setting. Not only will you get to read books that cover a wide range of topics, but you will also get to hear the perspectives of other book club members.
Joining a book club provides accountability. Having a deadline to finish a book helps you to prioritize reading in your life and encourages you to reach your reading goals. Joining a book club that meets once a month can help you to read at least 12 books a year!
Get more out of reading. When you are reading for a book club, you are likely to read more thoughtfully. You will find yourself hunting out themes and interesting character arcs. This provides you with a more meaningful reading experience and helps you become a more thoughtful, intentional reader.
But the main reason KDL book clubs are so awesome? They are fun! Interested in joining one of KDL’s many book clubs? Check out the program listings at the back of this magazine, ask a librarian at your local branch or visit kdl.org/bookclubs to find a KDL book club near you.
