Kent District Library Welcomes New Board Members

Amanda Schrauben and Norma VerHeulen
have been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Kent District Library by the Kent County Board of Commissioners.
Schrauben represents Region 4, which includes the City of Lowell, Bowne Twp., Lowell Twp., and Vergennes Twp. VerHeulen represents Region 3, which includes the City of Walker and Alpine and Plainfield Townships.

Schrauben has lived in the Lowell area for over 20 years with her husband and their two middle school-aged boys. An avid reader, she also enjoys blogging, photography and dedicates her time to giving back to the community. Her passion for learning, creativity, and connection shapes her personal and professional life.

"My deep love for the community drives my commitment to ensuring the library remains a vital resource for all," Schrauben said.

VerHeulen and her husband have lived in Walker for 44 years where they raised their four daughters. Her passions are reading, walking and spending time with her ten grandchildren.

I have witnessed first-hand how the libraries in Kent County have evolved through the efforts of their dedicated staff and board," said VerHeulen. "When my region’s incredible trustee, Penny Weller, decided to step down after serving on the board for 14 years, it seemed an opportune time to give back to the community and the institution that has played a major role in my life."

The eight members of the KDL Board of Trustees represent 27 communities throughout Kent County. Major duties include establishing and maintaining a public library for Kent District Library, establishing library policies, employing the Library Director, adopting an annual budget and approving the expenditure of funds. Board meetings are typically held the third Thursday of every month; times and locations are posted at www.kdl.org, opens a new window.
