Walker Makeover

The Walker Library Extreme Makeover is Nearing Completion!

Here are some important things to know about changes in service while we prepare to move from the Walker Temporary Library (in Standale) back to Remembrance Road:

  • Technology services may be limited at the temporary location starting Friday, August 28.
  • The temporary location will close at 5:00 PM, Saturday, September 12.
  • Grand opening at the Remembrance Road location will take place Monday, October 19.

To make sure that your needs are met during this transition, please observe the following details:

  • Starting Friday, August 28: Technology services may be limited at Walker Temporary Library to allow for transfer to new library. Public WiFi will be available but if you need any of the following services, please consider any of the other 19 KDL locations.
    • No Public PCs
    • No Printing
    • No Tech Tutoring
    • No Self-Checkout
  • September: Programming will pause until the new library opens. During this break, consider programs offered at other locations.
  • Wednesday, September 2: New hold requests will be paused. Walker Temporary Branch will no longer be an option for branch locations to pick up holds.
  • Saturday, September 12: Walker Branch Temporary Library closes at the end of day to begin moving to the new library.
  • Monday, October 19: New library will be fully open. Details about celebrating and resuming will be provided closer to this date.

What if you have a hold now for pickup at the Walker Temporary Library?

Holds will continue to be on the hold shelf for 10 days from their arrival in the branch. Expiration dates for pick up will be listed on your notification messages. September 12 is the final day to pick up holds that are at the Walker Temporary Location.

What if you have a hold that has not yet arrived, and you wish to change the pickup location?

You can easily change the pickup location for your materials requests that have not yet arrived at the branch. Go to kdl.org and log in with your library card; then click “On Hold.” Click “Pick up at Walker Temporary Library” and choose another location from the list that appears.

About the Walker Extreme Makeover

The Walker Branch Library, built in 1991, has served the community well, but the City of Walker and the surrounding area have grown incredibly. Population of Walker has increased 43%, from 17,626 to 25,289 and the rate of growth is rapidly increasing. The library serves as a connecting place, a modern-day town square where everyone gathers to learn and connect. The EXTREME makeover of the Walker Library will include:

  • 24,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art library and community space (increased from 8,898 sq. ft.)
  • Large multi-purpose room, hosting up to 250 guests
  • eSports facility
  • Bright, open space throughout
  • Expected to open in late 2026
