At KDL, we believe that access to information should never be limited by language or format. That’s why we’re excited to highlight two powerful accessibility features available on the scanners at all KDL branches: text translation and text-to-audio conversion.
Bridging Language Gaps with Text Translation
Whether you're a newcomer to the English language or simply need help understanding a document in a different language, our scanners can help. With just a few taps, you can scan a printed document and have it translated into dozens of languages—including Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese and more. The Text Translation function works best for straight-forward translation and is not recommended for professional or business documents.
This feature is especially helpful for:
- Translating school forms, medical documents, or legal papers
- Helping non-English speakers access important community information
- Supporting language learners in their studies
Listening Made Easy with Text-to-Audio
For patrons with visual impairments, reading difficulties, or anyone who prefers to listen rather than read, the text-to-audio feature is a game-changer. After scanning a document, the machine can convert the text into an audio file that you can download to take with you.
This tool supports:
- Individuals with dyslexia or other reading challenges
- Seniors with declining vision
- Multitaskers who want to listen on the go
How to Use These Features
Using these tools is simple:
- Touch the screen to begin and select the scanner
- Choose either the “Translate Text” or “Scan Text to Audio” option on the touchscreen.
- Follow the prompts to select your language or download your audio file.
Library staff are always happy to assist if you need help getting started.
Empowering Every Patron
These features are part of KDL’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion. By removing barriers to understanding and engagement, we’re helping every patron feel welcome, informed, and empowered.
Come try it out on your next visit—and let us know how we can continue to break barriers together.
