At Kent District Library, we believe in making resources accessible to everyone in our community. Our Beyond Books collection has always been about offering more than just books, and we're excited to announce new items specifically designed to support individuals with disabilities. These additions aim to provide greater accessibility and accommodation in daily life and everyday tasks.
Portable Video Magnifiers
For those with visual impairments, our new portable video magnifiers are a game-changer. These devices enlarge text and images, making it easier to read books, newspapers, and other materials. Their portability means you can take them anywhere, ensuring you always have access to the information you need.
Reading Pens
Reading pens are another fantastic addition to our collection. These pens scan text and read it aloud, which is incredibly helpful for individuals with dyslexia or other reading difficulties. They are easy to use and can significantly enhance the reading experience.
Accessible Gaming Controllers
Gaming should be for everyone, and our new accessible gaming controllers for Xbox, PS5, and Nintendo Switch ensure that it is. These controllers are designed to be more user-friendly for individuals with physical disabilities, allowing them to enjoy their favorite games without barriers.
Accessible Switch/Android Bluetooth Gamepad
In addition to console controllers, we now offer an accessible Bluetooth gamepad compatible with Switch and Android devices. This gamepad provides customizable controls and ergonomic design, making mobile gaming more accessible and enjoyable.
Adjustable Bookstands with Reading Lights
Our adjustable bookstands with reading lights are perfect for anyone who needs a little extra support while reading. These stands can be adjusted to various angles, reducing strain on the neck and eyes, and the built-in lights ensure you have the perfect illumination for reading.
Orcam Read 3 & Read 5 Interactive Reading Devices
The Orcam Read 3 and Read 5 are interactive reading devices that use advanced technology to assist with reading. These devices can read text from any surface, whether it's a book, a screen, or a sign, making them invaluable tools for individuals with visual impairments or reading difficulties. To ensure patron privacy, these devices will be reset between each checkout.
Orcam MyEye Wearable AI Device
Finally, the Orcam MyEye is a revolutionary wearable AI device that attaches to glasses and reads text aloud, recognizes faces, and identifies products. This device is designed to provide independence and confidence to individuals with visual impairments, allowing them to navigate the world more easily. As with the Orcam Read devices, the Orcam MyEye will also be reset between each checkout to protect patron privacy.
We are thrilled to offer these new items in our Beyond Books collection and are committed to continually expanding our resources to meet the needs of our community. Check out the Beyond Books collection to explore these new additions, as well as our other items. Together, we can make our library a place where everyone feels welcome and supported.
