Experience KDL: Celebrating Local Creativity in Alto and Lowell

By Heather Grit, Assistant Branch Librarian

KDL branches in Alto and Lowell are putting local artistry front and center, giving young creators space to shine in unique and inspiring ways.

Alto Branch: A Canvas for Elementary Artists

Each month, Alto Elementary students share their creativity with the community through a rotating art display at the Alto Branch. From whimsical watercolors to bold collages, this ever-changing gallery showcases the imagination of young minds and adds a splash of color to the library space. Families often visit to admire the latest pieces, and the students love seeing their work in a public space that welcomes and celebrates their efforts. It's more than just art—it's a growing connection between the library and its youngest patrons.

Englehardt Branch: Graphic Novel Drawing Experience for Teens

Over at the Englehardt Branch in Lowell, teens are telling stories in a different way—through the panels and pencils of graphic novels. The teen area is home to a drawing experience that lets budding artists sketch characters, design plots and dive deep into visual storytelling. Whether it's a heroic adventure or slice-of-life tale, teens are encouraged to express themselves and explore the art of sequential narrative. This creative outlet not only boosts confidence and literacy but also builds community among teens with shared interests in comics, anime and illustration.
