Experience KDL: Rock Snake at the Byron Township Branch

By Natalie Karsten, Branch Librarian

Local Byron Center artist Chad Vugteveen has gifted the Byron Township Branch with one of his unique painted rock creations – a new rock snake head! He’s hoping to share his love of creativity with our community. He loves the chance to bring a smile to someone’s face and is glad others are participating in his fun hobby.

This year at the Byron Township Branch, we decided to kick off our annual outdoor community rock snake with a naming contest. Patrons submitted ideas to name the rock snake, and staff selected the four finalists. Patrons are now voting for their favorite of the top names. The winning name will be announced in late May when the rock snake makes its reappearance outside the library.

Don’t forget to visit the Byron Township Branch throughout the summer to add your own painted rock creation to the body of our community rock snake! A great time to bring your first painted rock would be at our Summer Wonder Kickoff event on Tuesday, June 3 from 5:30-7:00pm. We’ll post pictures of our growing snake shortly after the Summer Wonder Kickoff event!
