By Dan Zar, Community Outreach Specialist, Kent County Veterans Services
Did you know there is a free resource for Kent County Veterans and their families? Kent County Veterans Services is on a mission to serve those who served by helping veterans and their loved ones navigate applying for benefits from the VA.
We have four Accredited Veterans Services Officers (VSOs) who work one-on-one to see what benefits you may have earned. All of our VSOs have served in the military and know firsthand how difficult it can be to apply for benefits, whether it’s a service-connected disability claim or a surviving spouse pension.
Our experienced office staff also helps with other free services like retrieving your military discharge paperwork (DD-214), upgrading of discharges (if possible), and notarizing documents.
Are you or someone you know dealing with the loss of a veteran in Kent County? We can help them in the process of applying for both county and federal burial assistance.
Our office, located at 836 Fuller Avenue NE in Grand Rapids, is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. You can call to talk to one of our staff members and to make an appointment at 616-632-5722. You can also visit our website kentcountymi.gov/veterans.
We are also always attending different community events and looking for more opportunities to inform people about our services. If you know of an upcoming event you think we would want to attend or are interested in having a representative from our office speak to your organization, please email us at kcvs@kentcountymi.gov.
