Meet Brittany! She is a Branch Outreach and Programming Specialist for the Alpine Township, Tyrone Township and Walker Branches. Basically, she helps decide what programs are offered at each branch and where in the community we bring our services. She is also a leader of the KDL Lab Programming Group which is made up of a team of librarians from different branches of KDL that create the system-wide programming and activities for school-age kids focused on STEAM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).
Let's get to know Brittany a little bit better.
The best book I have ever read is…
In 5th grade my teacher let me borrow her personal copy of The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. If you are not familiar with the book/movie, it is about a mouse who is a bit different from his peers and dreams of becoming a knight. The message of going after your dreams even when others discourage you was inspirational for school-age me and it remains one of my favorite children's books to this day.
If I had a day all to myself, I would spend my time…
It depends on the season and how adventurous I am feeling that day. You might find me gardening, playing PC games, watching television, crocheting, taking a walk or a hike, enjoying a cup of coffee or reading.
The talent I really wish I had is…
I've always wanted to play an instrument really well. I have dabbled with learning to play piano, penny whistle, recorder and ukelele but have never felt like more than a beginner. It might have to do with not being able to keep tempo. I took dance lessons with my husband once upon a time and he might have permanent bruising from me stepping on his feet repeatedly.
My proudest accomplishment is…
Honestly, I am proud of myself for learning to crochet. It is one of my favorite hobbies and it is so satisfying to see the completed projects. I mainly create things to gift to others and my favorite things to make are amigurumi animals.
Something people would be surprised to find out about me is…
I love to watch anime. Some of my current favorites include Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Demon Slayer, Fruits Basket (2019 series), Erased, Kimi ni Todoke and My Hero Academia. They are often cheesy and emotional, and I just love it!
When I was a child, I wanted to grow up to be…
A veterinarian and then it turned into a marine biologist. I just loved animals and thought it would be the coolest thing to work with them. It wasn't until high school that I began to consider becoming a librarian.
Three things I couldn’t live without are…
Coffee, sushi and audiobooks.
