Get Your Steam On!

By Brittany Zuehlke | Branch Outreach & Programming Specialist

KDL Lab Experience was created in 2013 to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art
and Math) education and has been a core part of KDL’s school-age programming ever since.

Libraries are the perfect places to spark curiosity and explore STEAM topics. We are all about creating excitement and fun experiences. When a child walks into a branch’s KDL Lab area or attends a KDL Lab program, they get to have tons of fun while also learning! It’s like sneaking veggies into your cooking when you aren’t sure your child would eat them otherwise. KDL Lab programs offer experiences that not everyone has regular access to, like child-safe table saws, robotic cubes or an unreasonable number of straws and connectors.

One of our favorite programs is coming up on September 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Plainfield Township Branch — the KDL Lab Expo! We invite local organizations and businesses to showcase how they use STEAM in their profession. They bring amazing activities like competition-level robots, derby racing, wind tunnels and more for attendees to experience. Not to mention all the other activities for attendees, like crafting, dissecting, building, button-making and experimenting!

We are always working to improve and grow our programs and spaces, and we hope you will visit soon to check out KDL Lab Experience.
