Dearest friends, creators and magnificent enigmas, prepare for an epic spring season at KDL. It is filled with good vibes, creativity and just the right amount of chaos. Intrigued? You should be. This is YOUR season.
Do you dream of crafting tales of adventure, betrayal, chilling secrets, that hilarious thing that happened to you in 2nd grade or just an astonishing amount of sarcasm? Then let me introduce you to our NEW Graphic Novel Contest. We want your story, so immortalize your tale in panels. And who knows? You could win fame, glory and awesome prizes. Stay tuned for more information, and in the meantime, start honing your drawing skills and diving into your favorite graphic novels!
Speaking of stories, you won’t want to miss what’s lurking on our shelves. Maybe you’ll lose yourself in the absurd hilarity of Old School by Gordon Korman or plunge headfirst into a sci-fi Power Ranger-esque showdown like Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. For those brave souls who want to experience the pure rapture of the horrific sort, check out The White Guy Dies First: 13 Scary Stories of Fear and Power. Whatever you’re into, we’ve got you. Seek them out... if you dare.
Need to get out of the house? Our teen programs are here to keep things interesting, from KDL Gaming events that might just crown you a legend to a chill craft session called “Touch Grass” that will make your Pinterest board WEEP with envy. Whatever your vibe, we’ve got something for you. Visit kdl.org/events.
Do you want fame, glory and prizes, but drawing isn’t your thing? Don’t forget about our Annual Poetry Competition and Slam! Spit your rhymes or craft beautiful verses and enter your poetry by April 1 (not a prank, I promise) at kdl.org/teenpoetry.
For those wondering, why this hype? Why this letter? Let me explain: KDL is your space to create, explore and just exist in. As the wildly awesome and sometimes delightfully chaotic teen that you are, you bring joy, creativity and fun to the library. Let us pay you back in kind this season.
So, what are you waiting for? Stop on by and be your excellent self, have fun or discover your next obsession. See you soon! (Unless, of course, your arch-nemesis intercepts this message. In which case, good luck. You’re going to need it.)
