Important Notice of Changes to Our Hoopla Collection

Beginning November 4, 2024, Kent District Library will be reducing the maximum price we are willing to pay for eAudiobook offerings available in Hoopla. Costs for eAudiobooks continue to rise and libraries across the country are taking the same measures as we are in order to ensure the sustainability of Hoopla as a resource for our patrons.

You may notice that higher priced items will no longer be available for checkout through Hoopla.

How does Hoopla work?

Unlike Overdrive/Libby, Hoopla doesn't have holds. Instead, each time a user checks out an item in Hoopla, KDL is charged a fee. These fees are set by publishers who make their books available through Hoopla. Each publisher is different, but we've seen a marked increase in the costs for eBooks and eAudiobooks in the last few years.

Combine the increase in costs per title with the fact that KDL's digital collection is still growing in popularity and you'll see that adjustments are necessary.

We're Here to Help
