Learn About Fair Housing at a Free Virtual Workshop Series

April is recognized as Fair Housing Month, a time to reflect on the importance of equal access to housing for everyone. To mark the occasion, The Fair Housing Center of West Michigan will host the 38th Annual Fair Housing Workshop Series on Wednesday, April 22, from 1:00–3:30 PM. The event will be held virtually using Zoom, with the platform opening at 12:45 PM. Thanks to generous sponsors, the workshops are free and open to the public.

This year’s series features two presentations that explore fair housing in today’s world. The first workshop, “Where We Live, What We Lose: The Real Costs of Housing Discrimination,” will be presented by George Lipsitz, a professor at University of California, Santa Barbara and author of the book The Danger Zone is Everywhere: How Housing Discrimination Harms Health and Steals Wealth. He will discuss how unequal access to housing affects health, wealth and opportunity, often along racial lines.

The second workshop, “Legal Update: Fair Housing in Today’s World,” will be led by Sara Pratt, a nationally recognized consultant and expert on fair housing issues. Her presentation will review recent changes in fair housing enforcement and highlight ways communities can work together to support housing choice.

Attendees who participate on April 22 during the second workshop may also earn one hour of fair housing continuing education credit for real estate through CE Marketplace.
