Volunteer Opportunity – Kent District Library Pension Board Appointment

Kent District Library is pleased to offer an opportunity for a volunteer Citizen Trustee to serve on the KDL Employees Retirement System Pension Board. While knowledge of traditional pension plans might be helpful, it is not necessary. The ideal candidate will have a desire to serve on behalf of the current and future retirees.

The Five-Member Pension Board of Trustees is made up of representatives from both the workforce (2), the KDL Board of Trustees (2), and a Citizen Trustee (1, currently vacant). Trustees assume their fiduciary role with guidance from plan actuaries and consultants who are hired to support the retirement plan. Primary activities include consideration and decision-making as it relates to investments, retiree benefits, the annual audit, and annual actuarial reviews, all in support of efforts to ensure the long-term viability of the retirement trust. Meetings occur quarterly (in February, May, August, November) typically on a Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 PM at the KDL Meeting Center, at 814 West River Center, Comstock Park, Michigan. Administration of the plan benefits is provided through the KDL Department of Human Resources. Education, professional development, and related travel expenses in support of the above are provided through attendance at state conferences hosted by the Michigan Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems (MAPERS). Mileage reimbursement and a meeting stipend of $30 is also provided. The term of the appointment is three years.

This posting will remain open until 12/7/25, with candidates being forwarded to the KDL Board of Trustees for consideration. For questions or additional information, and to submit a letter of interest, please feel welcome to contact Brian Mortimore, Plan Administrator, at 616.520.1923, and bmortimore@kdl.org.
