When you think of storytime at the library, do you picture children sitting in perfect rows, hands folded in their laps, attentively listening to someone reading a sedate story? If so, you are in for a delightful surprise when you attend one of KDL’s storytimes! We do have stories (great stories!) because research underscores the importance of reading to young children, but we also have much more.
Our librarians are well-versed in the behavior of young children and would never expect kids to sit patiently for a long stretch of time. To combat the wiggles, we have fun music breaks between stories. We spin with scarves, wildly shake shaker eggs, wave ribbons gently to the music, tap rhythm sticks to the beat or just dance our hearts out. Add in some rhymes (kids who can rhyme find learning to read easier!), some activities to promote letter knowledge, and some art or craft time and you have the perfect recipe for an entertaining (and free!) time for both child and caregiver.
Join us for storytime at the library — a joyful and enriching experience that nurtures a lifelong love of books and learning.
