City of Grand Rapids Housing Rehabilitation Program, opens a new window

The Housing Rehabilitation Program offers affordable loans for home repairs. This is a federally funded program administered by the Community Development Department. Assistance to qualified homeowners includes, helping determining what repairs are needed, selecting a contractor and getting a fair price, as well as ensuring repairs are complete and of good quality.

The principle purpose of Kent County's Housing Rehabilitation Program is to maintain or improve the structural condition and safety of homes belonging to low and moderate income households within Kent County. The program is funded with the Federal Community Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Offers educational and repair services for homeowners. Income-based home repair assistance is available depending on household size and income. 

Habitat for Humanity ReStores, opens a new window

Independently owned reuse stores operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations that accept donations and sell home improvement items to the public at a fraction of the retail price.

Rental and Home Ownership Programs

Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, opens a new window

Works with volunteers and prospective low-income home owners to build affordable homes in Kent County and eastern Ottawa County. Also offers low-cost home improvement materials, including fixtures, appliances and furniture.

The mission of the Healthy Homes Coalition is to prioritize children’s health and wellbeing by eliminating harmful housing conditions, beginning in Grand Rapids’ hardest hit neighborhoods. Our vision is for all children to grow up in healthy homes free of environmental hazards, accomplished through policy and advocacy, outreach and education, direct services, and continuous collaboration.

Free service provided by the Michigan State Housing Authority (MSHDA) makes it easy to search for properties that participate in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and other subsidized-housing programs. Property owners can also list rental units at no charge.
