New Walker Library Opens October 19, Bringing Expanded Spaces and Amenities to the Community

This press release was written and distributed by the City of Walker.

The City of Walker is pleased to announce the new Walker Library will open to the public in one week, on October 19, 2026.

This exciting step marks the end of a project fueled by a collaborative vision between the Kent District Library (KDL) and the City of Walker.

The new library has grown to over 20,000 sq ft. and will serve the city as a community hub for generations to come. The library will feature a hallway filled with Walker history, an outdoor plaza including a food truck pad, a second-floor deck and patio, an E-Sports room, a podcast studio, a main floor children’s section, enhanced programming space, numerous study rooms, a large conference space and an expanded adult book collection.

On October 19, a ceremonial ribbon cutting will take place, beginning at 9:30 AM. Those in attendance will hear remarks from City of Walker Mayor Gary Carey and KDL Executive Director Lance Werner, as well as comments from project partners Owen Ames Kimball and Meijer. Once the ribbon is cut, the library will officially be open to the public. KDL has various activities planned throughout opening week.

“Whether you are looking to check out a book and read in a quiet place, enjoy the children’s area with your family, looking for a space to work remotely or even record your own podcast, this library will have something for everyone,” commented Walker Mayor Gary Carey. “We cannot wait to share this new space with the Walker community as well as others from throughout the West Michigan area.”

The library is located at 4293 Remembrance Road NW, situated between Walker's City Hall and Police Department.
