Learn campaign strategy and leadership skills like public speaking and networking in this non-partisan training session designed to give women the confidence and skills needed to run for office. Elect Her will take place from 1:00 - 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 27 at the Wyoming Branch of Kent District Library. Hear from local politicians -- Kent County commissioners Liz Morse (R) and Nancy Morales (D) -- as they share their experiences getting started in politics. Gain practical knowledge and experience in the workshops offered throughout the session.
Elect Her will be facilitated by Vasundhara Kamath, the Director of Learning and Development for Running Start. The program aims to help attendees build the skills and confidence needed to run for office and connect attendees with a community of folks interested in running for office.
"Elect Her is a great training opportunity for anyone looking to run for public office but not sure where to start," said Amber Elder, Programming Specialist for Kent District Library. "The program will give you the tools to hit the ground running when you decide you want to run for office and help you build the community and support you'll need as you campaign."
While the program is designed to support women specifically, anyone is welcome to attend. Exercises include crafting elevator speeches, building your network, campaign simulation and more.
"Whatever you're thinking of running for, whether it's for a school board election next year or you plan to run for state senator in four years, Elect Her will help you gain confidence, practical knowledge and a community eager to support you in your journey to the polls," Elder said.
