Notary Services
The Kent District Library, in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan, provides Notary services free of charge, by appointment only, at the KDL Service and Meeting Center in Comstock Park, MI. Please call 616-784-2007 for more information.
Requirements
To receive notarization services, patrons MUST bring the following:
- Valid State, Federal, or other government picture ID
- Driver’s License/State ID
- Passport
- US Military ID
- The unsigned document to be notarized
- A witness (if needed)
Allowable Notarization Types
Notarization services available for the following notarization types:
- Acknowledgments
- Administer Oaths or Affirmations (Jurat)
- Witness or Attest to a Signature
*Please come prepared by knowing which notarization type is needed. The notary cannot advise which is needed.
Nonallowable Notarization Types
Notarization services can NOT be provided for:
- I-9 forms
- Trusts or Wills
- Financial Documents that are related to mortgage and housing
- Documents that are already signed (signatures must take place in the presence of a Notary Public)
- Documents that are in a language other than English
- Blank documents or documents with blank spaces other than the space for a signature
- The Notary Public will not certify or notarize that a document is an original or a true copy of another document.
- The Notary Public will not prepare or complete documents, nor can they give legal advice on a matter.
- In accordance with Michigan law, a Notary Public may refuse to perform a notarial act for any reason.
- Staff cannot travel to another location to notarize materials; it is the responsibility of the patron to travel to the location offering the service.

Bank of America - no cost for account holders
Huntington Bank - no account required and no fee.
Fifth Third Bank - no account required and no fee.
Other banks and credit unions offer notary services, and they may or may not require an account and may or may not charge a fee.
Grand Rapids Public Library
