What happened?

Kent District Library is investigating a recently discovered ransomware event that is affecting the operability of certain systems and services.

Upon discovery, we immediately initiated an investigation to determine the full nature and scope of the event.

We are working diligently to investigate this matter with the assistance of third-party digital forensic and cybersecurity specialists and securely restore full functionality to our affected systems as quickly as possible.

Is my private information safe?

Our investigation into this incident is ongoing. KDL wants to assure you that the privacy and security of information in our care are among our top priorities. As part of our response, we are taking steps to understand what, if any, impact there may be to the security of information. To the extent our investigation determines that any personal information has been affected, we will be communicating that to the relevant parties accordingly.

What can I do to help protect my personal data?

Remember to follow good password practices. For instance, don’t use the same password for multiple websites (including KDL systems access). If you do use the same password at KDL and your bank or personal investment firm, we recommend you change your passwords at these other institutions immediately.

Beware of storing passwords in web browsers. Many of these browsers claim to be safe and unhackable, but it is best to remember them or leverage a personal password vault which has a stronger encryption algorithm than the standard browser “memory.”

Need printing?
