Walker Makeover

The Walker Library Extreme Makeover is Underway!

Here are some important things you should know about changes in service with the Walker Branch closing on January 18, 2025:

As we prepare to relocate the Walker Branch to a temporary space in Standale to make way for construction on the Walker Branch, in-person services and hold-pickup locations will change:

• December 30 – The current Walker Branch will be temporarily unavailable to choose for new hold pickups. You may choose any of the other 19 KDL locations as your hold pickup location.
• January 8 – Last day materials will be added to the shelves for hold pickup. If you have a hold request scheduled to be picked up at Walker, it will be paused until the temporary location opens.
• January 18 – Last day that the current Walker Branch will be open. Last day to pick up holds, return materials and use the book drop. Please pick up/drop off items by 5pm. You may choose any of the other 19 KDL locations to return materials.
• February 3 – The temporary Walker location will open at 445 Standale Plaza NW, Walker, MI 49534. This location will be a new option for hold pickups, named “Walker Temporary.”

What if you have materials on hold now for pickup at Walker?

Holds will continue to be on the hold shelf for 10 days from their arrival in the branch. Expiration dates for pick up will be listed on your notification messages. January 18 is the final day to pick up holds that arrived on January 8.

You can easily change the pickup location for your materials requests that have not yet arrived at the branch. Go to kdl.org and log in with your library card; then click “On Hold.” Click “Pick up at Walker” and choose another location from the list that appears.

About the Walker Extreme Makeover

The Walker Branch Library, built in 1991, has served the community well, but the City of Walker and the surrounding area have grown incredibly. Population of Walker has increased 43%, from 17,626 to 25,289 and the rate of growth is rapidly increasing. The library serves as a connecting place, a modern-day town square where everyone gathers to learn and connect. The EXTREME makeover of the Walker Library will include:

• 24,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art library and community space (increased from 8,898 sq. ft.)
• Large multi-purpose room, hosting up to 250 guests
• eSports facility
• Bright, open space throughout
• Expected to open in late 2026
