Awesome Adults: Programming for All

Here at Kent District Library, we have the mission statement to Further All People. We work towards this goal by offering many crucial resources such as a diverse collection of library materials, an expansive Beyond Books collection, public computers, printing, scanning, faxing, tech assistance and, of course, quality programming. KDL has a strong commitment to providing valuable programming for community members of all ages and abilities.

One of my favorite programs that KDL offers to welcome all community members is our Awesome Adults program. Awesome Adults is a program designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their care partners. Details vary based on location but always include fun and engaging activities such as button making, bingo, arts and crafts, jigsaw puzzles, Legos, coloring and art projects, tabletop games and so much more! Getting to interact with the groups and individuals that come to Awesome Adults is always a rewarding experience for staff and participants alike.  

Jared, a KDL Branch Librarian, runs the Awesome Adults program at the Cascade Twp. Branch and says, “Awesome Adults is one of my favorite KDL programs! It gives adults with intellectual disabilities and the care partners who support them a consistent, friendly social hour with approachable activities and zero pressure. The magic for me is watching someone light up when a friend walks in. Those little reunions add up to a real sense of community at the library.” 

We are honored to have the opportunity to cultivate and foster community for people from all walks of life and to give them the space and resources that they need to grow and thrive together by offering exceptional programming like Awesome Adults.
