Job searching can feel like being caught up in the Wild West, and AI is quickly changing the landscape when it comes to both searching and applying for work. While all this new technology might seem overwhelming at first, there are smart and responsible ways to use AI to make the process easier and maybe even a little less stressful.
These tools use natural language processing to rewrite sentences, brainstorm wording and translate job descriptions into plain English.
How AI Can Help
Resume & Cover Letter Help: Tools like ChatGPT or Rezi can suggest stronger wording or even draft a cover letter based on a job posting.
Interview Practice: You can generate potential interview questions and work on confident responses.
Time Saving: AI can quickly adapt materials for different jobs and highlight key phrases to use.
Get Back into the Game: If you’re returning to the job market after some time away, switching careers or unsure about how to present your skills, AI can help you get started. It can suggest ways to describe your experience, help you organize your resume or even give you ideas about how to explain gaps in your resume.
What To Watch Out For
Over-Reliance: Job applications can feel robotic if you don’t personalize them.
Privacy Concerns: Don’t share sensitive information; AI tools may store your input.
Bias & Mistakes: AI can reflect bias or provide incorrect info, so double-check its suggestions.
Tech Gaps: Not everyone has access or feels confident using these tools, and that’s okay.
At KDL, we see AI as a helpful starting point, but not a replacement for your own voice and experience. We offer free computer access, printing, and job search resources. While we’re still learning about AI too, we’re here to help you explore tools, get connected and feel supported along the way.
This post is part of a blog series on AI, where we break down big ideas into simple, practical insights.
