Meet the Artist | Veronica Kudina

Have you ever wondered who creates the beautiful covers on KDL's Kaleidoscope magazines? Well, meet Veronica Kudina, the artist behind the summer edition (available now at a branch near you!). Veronica is a former KDL Graphic Design Intern who has gone on to a full-time position in graphic design.

What can you tell us about yourself?

Hi! My name is Veronica and I have a passion for creating. My love for art started early on, I spent countless hours drawing my way through stacks of paper when I was little. As I got older, I explored painting and took every art class I could in high school. Later, I studied digital art at University of Florida, where I fell in love with animation and graphic design. I’ve also enjoyed exploring other creative mediums like felting, 3D modeling, illustration, video and photography. I love trying new things and using art as a way to explore the world around me.

Where are some of the places you gather inspiration?

All around me! Nature is a huge source of creativity for me, and I often get my best ideas while out on walks. The work of other artists also inspires me. I’m especially drawn to textures and stylization in art. Before starting a project, I always do a quick scroll on different platforms as a way to get into a creative flow.

Describe the perfect summer day.

78 degrees with soft sunshine. I’d spend as much time outside as possible. Going on a hike with friends and stopping for a picnic with a view and then later taking a walk on the beach during sunset. In between, I’d have time to relax, read and work on a creative project.

What does the library mean to you?

For me, a library is a place for community, learning and wonder. I had the chance to work at KDL as a graphic design intern a few years ago, which gave me a behind-the-scenes look at how much care and thought goes into every detail, from programs and displays to the small visual touches that help create a welcoming space. The library is an amazing place filled with wonderful people, great resources and programs, and of course, books!
