Taking My Family to the GRAM with KDL’s PerkPass Program

Books and art are a powerful combination. Consider the power of book covers to attract your attention, or the beauty of your favorite children's picture book. That's why the partnership between Kent District Library and the Grand Rapids Art Museum makes so much sense.

Grand Rapids is an art city. My family loves art. Why hadn't I taken them to the premiere art museum in Grand Rapids? Mostly because doing so would have taken time and money that I didn't think we could afford. But when my eldest daughter asked specifically to visit the GRAM, my wife and I decided to set aside the time and make it work. And thanks to Kent District Library's PerkPass program, the only cost we had was parking in downtown Grand Rapids.

 

When we arrived, I handed off the printed pass (which I printed for free at the library) to the GRAM staff member at the front desk. They smiled and said, "We love the library." I heartily agreed. We then spent the next few hours taking in beautiful landscapes, abstract pieces, glass sculptures and amazing portraits. The exhibit of French art was interesting and led to rousing art discussions on the drive home.
