New Sensory Storytime Videos Have Dropped

Our Sensory Storytime page is full of new content! Stop by to enjoy some storytime fun with Miss Sara, Miss Liz, Miss Brittany and Miss Abby. Designed for children that may need extra sensory support, Sensory Storytime combines traditional storytime components with sensory elements to enhance the experience… all from the comfort of your own home.

“We recognize that storytime can be overwhelming and overstimulating for children with sensory processing challenges, and that trips to the library to attend these programs may not fit into their daily routine,” said Shelley Roossien, Accessibility & Inclusion Specialist. “Sensory Storytime was created to help alleviate these barriers by providing a way for kids to view content from home and to accommodate their comfort levels and schedules.”

Each season, a new full-length storytime video will be available online at kdl.org/sensorystorytime, as well as individual bite-size segments that feature flannel board stories, rhymes, songs and fingerplays. This allows children to either view an entire storytime from start to finish or mix and match the segments they like best and watch as many times as they desire.

A printable Resource Guide for parents and caregivers is available online, along with the video links. This guide includes ways to make sensory elements and tools out of common household items, ideas for enrichment activities and sensory crafts, and a sensory-friendly recommended reading list.
