Recognizing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

By Tabitha Schaub-Carter, Branch Librarian

November 25 is recognized as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness and taking action against gender-based violence. This day also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which runs until December 10, International Human Rights Day.

The year 2025 marks the 26th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

According to the United Nations website, globally almost one in three women have been subjected to physical partner violence, non-partner violence or both at least once in their lives. These acts of violence affect women and girls across all walks of life, regardless of age, education or economic status.
