Guess what? We found out that reading to a dog online is almost as good as reading to him in person. Kids miss out on the cuddles, but still feel the love and total acceptance that their new furry friend can offer. If your child loves books, loves dogs or could use some added confidence in the reading department, get them signed up for our Virtual Ruff Readers program. They are going to love it!
Ruff Readers takes place online via Zoom on Mondays from 6:30 - 7:30 PM and Wednesdays from 3:00 - 4:00 PM. This unique read-aloud program in partnership with West Michigan Therapy Dogs, Inc. pairs kids age 5-10 with a trained therapy dog and their handler. Kids read their favorite book and the pooches curl up, listen and enjoy. Plan to have enough reading material for 20-25 minutes of reading.
Register for Zoom passwords that will be sent the morning of the event, one child per email please.
A mom whose children recently participated in Ruff Readers shared, "One of my girls struggles with reading, mainly confidence. I watched her struggles melt away as she read to the pups. I had tears in my eyes. I was so proud of all of them, but I could she her confidence growing in a way I never have."
