Kent District Library offers free bicycle rentals with its KDL Cruisers. The bicycles are typically available May 1 to Oct. 31. These branches will have Breezer Uptown EX 8-speed bicycles available for checkout:
- Caledonia Township, opens a new window
- Cascade Township, opens a new window
- East Grand Rapids, opens a new window
- Grandville, opens a new window
- Krause Memorial, opens a new window in Rockford
Each KDL Cruiser comes with a basket, a bike lock and key. All bikes will have a diagonal, step-through crossbar.
KDL Cruisers can be checked out to anyone age 18 or older with a photo ID and library card from KDL, Grand Rapids Public Library or the Lakeland Library Cooperative. You'll be asked to agree to a Bicycle Borrowing Agreement acknowledging financial responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged equipment and a liability waiver. Adults will be allowed to sign waivers for children as long as the adult accompanies the children on the ride.
Bikes are available for a week check out and due back by closing of the day due (no after-hours returns).
Although Michigan law doesn't require bicyclists to wear a helmet, the library strongly recommends customers bring their own.
