Summer Wonder is back at Kent District Library (KDL), offering readers of all ages exciting opportunities to stay curious, creative and connected all summer long. Running June 1 through August 7, the annual program encourages lifelong learning through reading, hands-on activities and free events designed for a variety of interests, learning styles and abilities.
Participants can join Summer Wonder by picking up a log at any KDL branch or registering online at kdl.beanstack.org. The program is free and includes activities, adventures and prizes for children, teens and adults.
“Summer Wonder helps families turn everyday moments into opportunities for learning, creativity and connection,” said Sara Magnuson, Branch Outreach & Programming Specialist. “Whether you’re reading together, attending a program or trying something new, KDL is here to make summer both fun and enriching.”
In addition to the reading challenge, KDL branches will host a wide variety of free summer programs and performers, including music, magic, animal encounters, puppetry, STEAM activities and more. A complete schedule of events is available at kdl.org/events.
Summer Wonder also helps address the “summer slide,” the learning loss that can occur between school years. Research shows that children who participate in summer reading programs through public libraries are more likely to maintain academic skills and continue building literacy throughout the summer months.
“We know that learning doesn’t stop when school ends,” said Magnuson. “Summer Wonder gives kids, teens and adults exciting ways to stay engaged, discover new interests and build a lifelong love of reading.”
