Volunteer Opportunities for Teens

Summer Teen Crew

Ages 11-17

Participants must complete a paper application form that may be picked up and returned to their local branch. Applications are offered beginning in early to mid-April.

Summer Teen Crew members sign up for shifts that fit their schedules and interests. They may help with tasks like:

  • Program set-up, assistance and clean up
  • Tracking program attendance
  • Preparing materials for programs or other branch needs
  • Tidying, organizing, and sanitizing materials
  • Book management techniques (shifting, face outs, book order on carts)
  • And more

Participating in Teen Crew encourages the development of skills in:

  • Communication
  • Community Building
  • Responsibility
  • Time Management

Seasonal Branch Volunteer (Sept - May)

Ages 14-17

Volunteers will be required to attend an onboarding session with the Volunteer Coordinator, and a suitable schedule will be individually assigned. Not all KDL branches will have the capacity to accept Seasonal Branch Volunteers, and any available opportunities will be offered at the discretion of the Branch staff and Volunteer Coordinator.

Seasonal Branch Teen Volunteers may have the capacity to assist with:

  • Dusting and straightening shelving units
  • Wiping DVD discs
  • Wiping front and back hard covers of children’s books (picture books and board books)
  • Neatness and tidiness of branch areas
  • Sanitizing and cleaning of handrails, keyboards, computer chair arm rests, kids’ areas, WonderKnook, and toy parts
  • Assistance with prep and crafting needs for future programs
  • Minor shelving time as deemed necessary and appropriate to volunteer’s understanding of KDL’s basic shelving needs and merchandising of empty display stands
  • Other tasks as suggested by managers.
