At Kent District Library, we are committed to showcasing initiatives that break down barriers and foster inclusivity within our community. In this edition of our Breaking Barriers series, we are thrilled to highlight the remarkable work of Disability Advocates of Kent County (DAKC) and their innovative Test Pilot volunteer program.
Empowering Through Experience
The Test Pilot volunteer program is a unique initiative designed to enhance accessibility and inclusivity in public spaces throughout Kent County. Volunteers, known as "Test Pilots," play a crucial role in this program by examining various locations and providing valuable feedback on their user-friendliness. This hands-on approach ensures that spaces are not only compliant with accessibility standards but also genuinely welcoming and functional for individuals with disabilities.
Making a Difference
Test Pilots are instrumental in identifying potential barriers and suggesting practical improvements. Their insights help create environments where everyone, regardless of ability, can navigate with ease and dignity. By participating in this program, volunteers contribute to a more inclusive community, where accessibility is a priority and everyone can thrive.
