By Cameron Holmes, Branch Librarian
You probably know that Kent District Library (KDL) has multiple branches located throughout Kent County. But did you know that KDL has a branch located inside of a high school? Well, it’s true! The Kelloggsville Branch, one of KDL’s twenty branches, can be found inside Kelloggsville High School. A community library in a high school? You may be thinking to yourself, how does this work? Am I allowed to use the library if I’m not a student? Do they offer the same wonderful services that other KDL branches provide to patrons and community members?
These are all valid questions and I’m here to answer them! It is true that during the school year the Kelloggsville Branch functions as the high school’s media center. However, Monday-Thursday from 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM the branch functions as a public library. During this time, the public can use the branch just as they would any of our other KDL branches. When the school is not in session for the summer, the branch functions fully as a public library and operates under extended hours. Summer hours for the Kelloggsville Branch are:
Monday & Wednesday: 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM
Tuesday & Thursday: 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM
The Kelloggsville Branch provides all the services that other KDL branches offer, including, but not limited to, printing and scanning, public computers, free Wi-Fi and an excellent selection of books, games, DVDs and more. The branch also hosts different programs and events for all ages to enjoy!
This summer, the Kelloggsville Branch will have been serving the community for five years. To celebrate this milestone, the Kelloggsville Branch will be hosting a Birthday Bash from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2. This celebratory event is one that you’re going to want to bring the whole family to! Come enjoy some family friendly fun, games, yummy snacks and a foam party! Come learn more about one of KDL’s most unique locations, the Kelloggsville Branch.
Hope to see you soon!
