"I entered the Write Michigan Short Story Contest for the first time this year in order to hold myself accountable to finishing a story. I’m so glad I did! I love seeing my writing on the shelf at the library and at Schuler Books. (I’m also proud to be a Newbery Honor-adjacent author, published in the same volume as the illustrious Gary D. Schmidt.) This contest has given me a serious boost of energy and confidence as I move on to other writing projects. I enjoyed reading the other semifinalist and finalist entries — I was introduced to great stories from local writers of all ages, and I hope to see more! It’s wonderful that KDL encourages local talent through programs like Write Michigan."
