The Immigrant Connection , opens a new window

The Immigrant Connection provides low-cost immigration legal services to the Grand Rapids area. An initial consultation lasts approximately 40 minutes and costs $45. Call or email to schedule an appointment.

Migrant Legal Aid, opens a new window

Provides farm workers advice and referrals; community education and training; civil legal assistance for employment, public benefits, unemployment, and housing.

Samaritas, opens a new window

Adjustment of status, petitions for relatives, consulting, citizenship, EAD’s for refugee clients.

Lemkin House, opens a new window

Shelter and support -- physical, legal, social and spiritual -- for those people in West Michigan who are seeking asylum in the U.S.

Justice for Our Neighbors, opens a new window

Free legal services to low income immigrants; non-profit monthly immigration clinic held in Grand Rapids, Holland, and Traverse City.

Hispanic Center of West Michigan, opens a new window

Provides assistance with general immigration forms, processing and referrals. Advocacy services for access to local emergency support services. Communication with foreign consulates, statewide partner agency referrals and follow up, funeral arrangements in foreign countries, assistance in finding missing adults and children.

Immigration Legal Services: Diocese of Grand Rapids , opens a new window

Immigration Legal Services (ILS) provides low-cost, legal representation in immigration matters to those in our community whose household income falls below 200% of the poverty line. 

ILS accepts new clients only after a consultation. Consultations are held at their office. Call for a consultation appointment. 

Thrive: Refugee Support Center, opens a new window

This program connects refugees to services they would otherwise not be able to access in addition to providing programs to fill in some of the gaps in services for this population.

Bethany Christian Services, opens a new window

Refugee foster care, employment, resettlement, along with ESL classes and cultural orientation classes. 

Legal Aid of Western Michigan, opens a new window

Languages: Spanish. Will arrange for translators for other languages.

Civil legal services: domestic violence, family law, disability, housing, public benefits, consumer law, Medicaid. No fees.

A step by step guide for helping those with the N-400, Application for Naturalization Form.

These guides provide information on eligibility requirements and naturalization procedures, as well as form N-400. 

M-476: A Guide to Naturalization, opens a new window

A Guide to Naturalization (M-476) provides information on the benefits and responsibilities of citizenship, an overview of the naturalization process, eligibility requirements.

Adult Education is offering citizenship classes sponsored by The WORD ESL and GRCC. The classes are available for anyone preparing for the U.S. Citizenship Exam.

Provides ESL tutoring, as well as a place to socialize and strengthen community ties.

Offer a variety of literacy programs for adults who read below a 9th grade level and/or who don’t speak English as their first language.

This is an online class to prepare you for the US citizenship test. You can take this class on your phone or a computer. The class is self-paced, so you can learn anytime.
